This week on "Harry Potter Meets ____-"
Harry Potter Meets Disaster Movie!
So maybe there wasn't strictly speaking an explosion going on right then but I really wanted to draw one hahaha

Everyone and their cousin has drawn this scene, and now I'm one of them. Seriously I cried so hard after this book, I was totally ruined for like a month.

Brush and ink, photoshop. Still weird to do digital colors but I think I'm liking it.

Oh my god, I love your Lupin and your boyish little gangly Harry and the weird surreal distorted motion in this. Definitely the best adaptation of this scene.

This is so amazing. Your art is so amazing. I love the harsh comickness..... sorry that's a bad description! it's so bold!

I know what your saying,
After my initial shock and yelling why at the sky,
I had to take off from school,
Go on a three year journey,
Hiking and sleeping on benches,
Until I found who I was before....
'it' all happened...
People say they never saw that special twinkle in my eye since...

beautiful style here. i love this inky dark kind of mood you set here. it's really something special. i adore these pieces of yours.

Really dramatic and therefor totally awesome. Love the colors and the comic feeling to it!

And this scene, i read it and went in denial. Like "Sirius is not dead really dead." "But he disapeared through the curtain--" "SIRIUS. IS NOT. DEAD."

i love all your hp art. very mike mignola and i think the style fits amazingly well due to the darkness of the material. well done:ahoy:

Love it! You captured the exact expressions I saw in my head while reading.

And I can relate to you about being ruined. After flinging the book across the room I ran to my bed and cried there. I wouldn't come out for hours. Same with the 7th book.

Sibi-chan reading book 5.
Sibi's dad reaching living room. Sibi's dad had been warned by coworkers. (like: "Your daughter's into Harry Potter?" - "Uhm... yeah..." - "She likes dogs?" - "Yes." - "Hand her some cleenex.")

Dad saw Sibi reading close to the end. Without crying already.
Dad left room.
Returned with a box of kleenex.
Kleenex was in use five minutes later.

This almost looks like it could be from Harry Potter: The Graphic Novel. Hahah, has a really great comic look about it. God, do you think anyone will have the guts to do all those one day...
toerning Featured By Owner May 14, 2010
If someone guaranteed that I could live comfortably and eat comfortably through it, aka not die a starving artist, i would do that shit in a HEARTBEAT.
aberry89 Featured By Owner May 14, 2010  Professional Digital Artist
And I would buy that shit in a heartbeat! :la:

That would be an amazing thing to draw, the Harry Potter world lends itself so incredibly well to artists. I really think some publishing company should take on that endeavor. Have a different artist for each volume.... Gawwwdd that would be sooo awesome! And J.K. Rowling could make more money!
toerning Featured By Owner May 16, 2010
You know, this is one of those things that is like so near and dear to me (harry potter and comics?! my two favourites) that I don't think I could read it unless it was like THE PERFECT ARTIST for it. I couldn't BEAR it if a less-than-prodigy drew harry potter which happens so frequently with comics produced out of a pre-existing form like this would be.
but yeah if they could find that then HELL YEAH FULL SPEED AHEAD ahaha
aberry89 Featured By Owner May 16, 2010  Professional Digital Artist
Oh yeah, defiantly would have be an awesome artist. Unlike in that horrible Twilight graphic novel. But those books are very, very far my heart, so I couldn't really care less.

This is great, I'm loving this style! The brushwork is very expressive, and I can't help but LOVE the background. Kinda abstract and really effective!:)

As for the scene... Tell me about it... I cried so much reading it, and it still brings tears to my eyes whenever I do.

colorpulp Featured By Owner May 13, 2010
Okay, please, please, please PLEASE
make a graphic novel adaptation of Harry Potter.

Your vision of him is just so perfectly bizarre/sort of sci-fi/moody/inky/dramatic and I want to read the entire series in this form.
toerning Featured By Owner May 14, 2010
it's so funny to receive comments like this cause it's like this is just how I SEE "harry potter," right? And then someone is like "bizarre/sort of sci-fi/moody/inky/dramatic..."
I love it! It's so great to look at your art with someone else's eyes, for me, this is just the visual style of harry potter!
thanks for the great comment, I'll put it on the back of my book cover ;)
colorpulp Featured By Owner May 15, 2010
For me, I dunno, Harry Potter (at least the earlier books, which I remember more) are brighter, colored like childhood, more Disney in appearance. That's just how I think of it, probably because I was really little when it first came out and I read it.
Your style is more mature, more "grown-up" and sort of creepy and really wonderful.
toerning Featured By Owner May 16, 2010
Well there was like this general "harry potter" look that developed early in the fandom which was 99% inspired by Makani's harry potter works, and several other artists, which was super Disney inspired. And so much of the harry potter art (including my older stuff) floating around is done in that style i feel like it informed a lot of peoples' visions of the novels without even meaning to!
thanks again!
colorpulp Featured By Owner May 16, 2010
Ahh, that is very true. I never thought about that before.

No problem. I'm waiting for the graphic novel series. c:
