Jon snow by toerning Jon snow by toerning
Lord Snow, from George R. R. Martin's Genius "A Song of Ice and Fire."

part 1 of some experiments on no-reference painting, embracing dramatic lighting, and painting from form and color (vs. Sketch) and entirely plain hard brush usage

probably like 4 hours photoshop. This was so much fun, the first portrait of its kind i've ever done.
For :iconsir-heartsalot: whos wonderful asoiaf art got me off my ass to do some of my own.

<edit> *SPOILERS!!!*
How could i forget this?!?! I wanted to point out specifically in his character design that i gave him slanty bedroom eyes because i think he is the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar, not Ned. With my luck, this is probably an established theory, but i was very proud of myself for thinking it up. anyway yeah. </edit>

Thank you for this. I'm currently working my way through the first book, and have been having trouble forming a mental picture of him due to seeing the show first. This will definitely help.

Hair waaaaaaay too curly, accent waaaaaaay too exaggerated. I guess Kit does a good job of the character imo though.

Nice job! I don't actually watch that show, and I haven't read the books (though a ton of my friends are all like "ASDFGHJKL WATCH/READ IT NOW"), but I can appreciate nice portrait work when I see it. X3

Not my Jon Snow and very different than I would expect (looks more like my idea of Pip), but your technique and art style are phenominal and the coloring, everything, is really great. I can't compliment it enough.

Oh wow, I faved this forever ago but I had no idea what it was from. But I just finished the first book and NOW I KNOW.
It's kind of weird trying to see this as Jon.. when I look at this I see a boy from a modern setting. Like he's in the city or something. I think it's the cool light on his face. It feels like it's from a street light or something.. doesn't look like it's made by fire.
Maybe it's some kind of creepy ice-demon fire.
Anyway, this is just as gorgeous as it was when I favorited it.

In a lot of ways, I agree with you, he does look really modern, but I think that's more in the facial structure than anything. The light was never supposed to be fire, I just liked that color haha. But yeah, I'd make some different choices if I was going to do it again.
