A Note on Light and Colour by toerning A Note on Light and Colour by toerning
*credit to gadreel for the still life stock: [link] *

<edit 1/23> I forgot to mention, for a slightly more accurate, if really poorly reproduced, version of the final lighting scheme, check out a painting of mine that used the described light source: [link] </edit>

I'll say it again, this is just a collection of thoughts about color and light that I was thinking about today. I was doing a bunch of color studies and decided just to share some of the stuff I've been thinking about...

This is no. 1 of my inner monologue of useless not-tutorials entitled "Tricks To Make It Look Like You Know What You're Doing."

I will ACTUALLY do some art soon, really, as soon as I solve this paint tool sai problem.

<EDIT 5/26> wow i am ashamed that I JUST noticed the DD on this business. Thank you, everyone!!!</EDIT>

The Suggester writes: A Note on Light and Colour by *toerning is truly a fascinating tutorial about color combination and overall feel. There are times when your anatomy is perfect, details, background too, but there's just something missing! And most of the time that something could be the color scheme. And no matter how much you edit it, it will never be as good and natural as the first one. I really think this note on light and color should be read by as many as possible!! Thank you for sharing. I really like this. I'm not the most observant of people for an artist, so whenever observant people like you put their two cents in, it all adds up to money in the bank (or my mind?) for me! :D

I love tutorials like these. This may not be one of the longer tutorials but the advice here is rock-solid! :D

This was very useful! I have issues with my shading sometimes. I found the use of grey between the two colors insightful. I hadn't thought of that before. I understand light and dark balance pretty well but I haven't mastered mood lighting yet.
